Altered Effect Rules
• Game Requirements •
You must be 16 or older in order to apply and to play
You must have AIM and be available via AIM
You must submit an application and be accepted to join • Applying for a Character • Please only apply for characters in the primary game series (ex. no Tactics Characters, no Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings characters). The games we are accepting are Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, and XII. If there is a version of a character in one game that appears in an offshoot (Crisis Core Cloud is younger and isn't as broody as FFVII Cloud, FF X-2 Yuna is a bit more free-spirited than FFX Yuna (though not nearly as interesting)) you may apply for that version of a character as long as they appeared in a primary game as well.
Remember! The characters you are applying for are NOT the same as the canon versions in game! They must be edited to fit comfortably into the Final Fantasy VIII setting. Try to keep canon references to a minimum!
PLEASE only apply for characters for games you've played and completed. We realize that the game isn't strictly canon but canon elements ARE used. It's a bare minimum requirement for knowing the character you're playing. Wikipedia'ing information and watching youtube videos will not suffice.
• Critical Concepts •
When in doubt, talk to a Mod. (This applies to nearly every situation that you think might be an issue, or violate the rules, etc.) Also, our word is final. Please don't argue with us.
Don't be a Mary Sue. Which means, no spontaneously developing a power, magically coming into lots of money, or being perfect at everything. The characters in this game are (mostly) human, and have flaws to benefit their strengths. Having a character that can do no wrong is a good way to get the DENIED stamp on your application.
No "God Modding" - ie no advancing, controlling, or changing the actions, etc. of another player's character, or of NPC's as they have been utilized by another player, without speaking to the character ahead of time. If changes will have a potential broad impact on the game, or on multiple plots, you MUST check with a mod before doing so.
No "Metagaming" - in other words, No using information that you as a player are aware of, but your character is not aware of, to influence your characters actions. An example would be: If someone tells you player to player, about their character's inner-most thoughts, your character cannot comment on them, or sense them, or alter their behavior based on that knowledge, if the other character does not somehow convey those thoughts to yours.
• Expectations for Players •
Everyone must start with 1 original character. (You may be able to have more chars, but all players are but you have to have applied with an original character.) You are allowed to pick up a second character after you complete your first month of the game, this is to make sure you're actually dedicated to the game.
Once accepted, you must post an introductory post in the OOC community ( altered_ooc) for starting character(s) and any additional characters as they are added.
Players should have individual AIM accounts for each character if at all possible. This makes AIM RP easier to follow in logs, etc. If players are unable to have an account for each character, they must have at least one sceenname to use for the RP.
You must be active at least once every two weeks within the game. The more active your character is, the more fun you can have.
Please let the mods know when you will usually be available for RP, and what days / times will generally work best for you (include on application).
Players who are going on trips, having real life issues, etc., that will lead to extended absences, should tell the mods in advance, either in OOC, or AIM.
It is never acceptable to attempt to bully or otherwise coerce another player into doing something with their character they may not want to do.
• Community & Posting Guidelines •
Each character must keep a journal written in the first person as though it was their personal journal, and update it periodically. It is recommended that players update character journals at least once every two weeks unless it is in the character's personality to not update their journals.
All RP should be posted in altered_effect using formal style, for example: Steven walked past Marc and opened the fridge. "Want a beer?" He said, prodding around, hoping to find something better than the swill that Marc enjoyed.
All logs must have a rating (G, PG, PG-13, R). Anything sexual in these logs should be kept at a PG-13 level or referenced to very vaguely / faded out.
ALL OOC posts must be done in the OOC community, not in the other communities or character journals.
Thread Posting Format
Who: Who's involved What: Short explanation of what's going on in the thread or log Where: Where does the thread or log take place? When: What day and what time? Warnings: Swearing? Sexual Innuendo? Anything PG or above?
After this, everything goes under an lj-cut.
